headcase

Fashion first. Millinery at its heart.

Headcase is an independent Australian label making mostly one-of-a-kind hats and headpieces.

Personality throughout.

Every Headcase piece combines contemporary and traditional millinery techniques — blocking, wiring, hand-curling feathers — with an eye for shape and colour that comes straight from fashion.

They're made for women who want something striking, unusual and individual. For race days and weddings, yes. But also for garden parties, gallery openings, and any Tuesday that deserves it.

The maker behind Headcase

Lou Kubicki

Headcase Hats is the work of Lou Kubicki — designer, maker, and firm believer that life is better in a hat. Forever a fashion addict, Lou started her millinery journey with one course and never looked back.

Workshops with Australia's renowned milliners — Louise Macdonald, Rebecca Share, Neil Grigg, Lauren J Richie and Jill Humphries — solidified her love of hat making in all styles and forms. Now working from her home studio in Kew, Victoria, Lou fashions hats with feeling, endlessly trying to create new styles combining traditional and contemporary methods.

She's an advocate for everyday hat wearing and wants to make hats more accessible, sustainable and fun. Some pieces are strictly one-of-a-kind; others can be reworked in your colours or commissioned from the ground up. Private consultations and fittings are by appointment — come in, try things on, and let's find the hat that only you were going to wear.
